SUMMARY:Merredin Taking Liberty
DESCRIPTION:THEATRE 180 in collaboration with WA Museum presents one of the greatest moments in Australian sporting history–the defeat of Liberty by Australia II in the 1983 America’s Cup. In an epic\, against-the-odds finish to a best-of-seven race\, Skipper John Bertrand led his crew to turn the tide from a 3-1 deficit in race five and claim victory in a nail-biting decider\, one of the biggest comebacks in sporting history. \nCombining the excitement of live theatre against a cinematic backdrop\, Taking Liberty by Ingle Knight celebrates the moment in time that defined a nation and gave international prominence to our cultural identity and fighting spirit\, ending America’s 132-year dominance of the sport in what became known as the Race of the Century. \nA story of enormous national significance: one of grit\, perseverance\, technological innovations and the athleticism of those who changed the course of history. \n“THEATRE 180 is proud to continue our 31-year history of telling Western Australian stories with this production. Taking Liberty\, as the title promises\, highlights the tenacity\, audacity and larrikin belief in resounding success which characterised the 1983 campaign to wrest America’s Cup from the bolt holes of the New York Yacht Club\, where it had sat firmly for 132years. \nFilled with colourful characters\, drama and laughs aplenty\, this play takes us back to the moment in time when Western Australia was put on the world map and the stage was set for the port city of Fremantle\, where Australia II and her famous winged-keel now proudly hangs in our WA Maritime Museum\, to shine.”Stuart Halusz\, Artistic Director THEATRE 180 \nDURATION: 90min (no interval)\nSUITABLE FOR 10 yrs and up \nTickets $15 under 18s\, $20 Concession\, $25 Adult Book online or in person at Central Wheatbelt Visitor Centre

SUMMARY:Beverley CATALPA: Flight to Freedom
DESCRIPTION:THEATRE 180 in collaboration with WA Museum tells the incredible true story of the greatest prison break in Australian history: the escape of six Irish Fenians from the fortress of Fremantle Prison in 1876 on board the American whaleship CATALPA. \nKnown as a living tomb\, Fremantle Prison was a place of hellish imprisonment and far from the green fields of Ireland and the land of birth for these freedom fighters seeking independence from centuries of crippling British rule. \nTwo years in the planning\, involving espionage\, secret letters\, undercover operatives who travelled from Boston to Western Australia to enact the plan\, a love affair\, a rescue ship masquerading as a whaleboat\, a desperate boat chase and the threat of war against the might of America – this story has all the hallmarks of a major Hollywood movie and all the heart of an Irish ballad. \nWith its sprawling storyline\, cast of thousands and epic landscapes from the high seas to 19th century Western Australia\, CATALPA: Flight to Freedom is the latest in THEATRE 180’s successful and immersive CinePlay genre. \nThe daring and audacious CATALPA rescue is a dramatic and gripping tale of hope and adventure not to be missed! \nAGE RANGE: 12yrs – 100+yrs \nDURATION: 105 minutes \nBeverley Town Hall \nTickets – BEVERLEY STATION ARTSWritten by Stuart Halusz and Myles Pollard.  Featuring Myles Pollard\, Tadhg Lawrence and Taran Knight.

SUMMARY:Beverley She is Strong
DESCRIPTION:Presented by Natural Wings and Rachel Collier Photography\, She is Strong is an intimate\, immersive and powerful show which celebrates the hidden world of three circus women\, their vulnerabilities\, strengths and flaws. Through aerial dance\, photography and audio\, the artists reveal honest stories that have inspired their strength – while showing a bond that’s only possible when women support one another. What ensues is a moving and thought-provoking experience. \nIn the weeks before the performance\, artists engage with local women in intimate gatherings\, where they share stories of unexpected strength. These heartfelt conversations culminate in empowering photoshoots\, capturing the essence of these women in locations where they feel most at home. The resulting photography and audio snippets are carefully curated into projection which plays as a moving pre-show experience\, alongside an accompanying photography exhibition. If you would like to be involved in this project\, please contact Beverley Station Arts at admin@beverleystationarts.com to register your interest – the sessions will be happening 8-10 April in Beverley! \nShe is Strong goes beyond the confines of a traditional performance; it’s a celebration of community\, empowerment\, and the inherent strength found within every woman’s story. \nBeverley Town Hall \nTickets – BEVERLEY STATION ARTS
