316 kilometres east of Perth
Westonia is located just over four hours drive east of Perth and half an hour from Merredin. It is on the Golden Pipeline Heritage Trail.The Goldfields meets the Wheatbelt in the town.
Named after Alfred David Weston, a sandalwood cutter and part time prospector,the town owes its origin to gold mining although it now relies on wheat and sheep farming. All its streets are named after minerals and the town has preserved a streetscape facade that reflects its Edwardian origins.
In 1915 Westonia had two mines in operation and by 1917 there was a population in excess of 2000. This quickly diminished when mining operations ceased in 1948. The Edna May Gold Mine is one kilometre north of the town.
Westonia is nestled amongst 4,000 hectares of salmon gum, morrell and gimlet woodland interspersed with granite outcrops. The four kilometre Woodlands and Wildflower Trail through Westonia Common is well worth exploring . While Sandford Rock reserve is nearby.

Catalpa Resouces: Edna May Operations
Catalpa Resources Limited owns the Edna May Operations situated two kilometres form the Westonia Township. Earlier this year, Catalpa completed a feasibility study for the Edna May, outlining an economically robust mining operation with an average gold production in excess of 100,000 ounces recovered per annum and a life of the mine in excess of seven years.
Catalpa has since finalised the funding to advance the Edna May to production. Subject to the necessary final approvals, a 12-month construction phase will commence in May 2009, with the first gold to be produced in the second quarter of 2010. Catalpa's vision is to utilise Enda May as a platform to grow Australia's next mid tier gold production company.
Catalpa is committed to utilising local labour and services where ever possible.
