320 kilometres north-east of Perth
Beacon has the great feature of being the farthest northeasterly town in the Wheatbelt. As such, it is not a typical Wheatbelt location, adjacent to extensive native bushland and pastoral country. There are numerous granite and other rock formations, many of which have been harnessed for the collection of rainwater.
There are a number of interesting places to visit in Beacon. The Beacon Botanical Park was established in 1999 as a collaborative project between the Mt Marshall Land Conservation District Committee and the Beacon Primary School.
Billiburning Rock is part of a large reserve. It has attractive wildflowers, a good view from the top of the rock and is a good picnic area. Beagley's Breakaway, is another interesting rock formation dating back millions of years adjoining the Tampu Well reserve. The granite outcrops and remnant bushland provide excellent bird-watching sites. Tampu Well is an old Government well that was used by sandalwood prospectors and shepherds.
Bimbijy Station lies 100 kilometres to north of Beacon. The station is no longer a tourist destination, however, camping may be possible by arrangement with the owner Mr L. Timms +61 8 9667 1022.
Karroun Hill Reserve is the largest nature reserve in the South west of Western Australia. It is home to an abundant array of wildlife with in the Mt Marshall area. Mouroubra Rd to Paynes Find Road is quite passable and offers an alternative route to and from Perth and other south west towns.
Mining is also a part of Beacon. Extensive kaolin claims have been pegged with in the area. The kaolin is of a very high quality and suitable for world markets.
Mt Churchman was named by A.C. Gregory in 1846. Mt Churchman is located on private property and permission to visit must be sought from the owner.
The Vermin Proof fence was constructed in the late 1950's. The fence was constructed to keep out the emus and wild dogs from farming areas.
Crimpy's Tank, built in 1966, is a rock catchment tank with a standpipe and Tampu Bin is the only 'off-line' grain receival point in the Shire.
