Stay Awhile and Explore

Day 1. Get your bearings

Settle into your accommodation. Call in at the Visitor Centre for maps and guides of various drive routes and suggestions for things to see and do. Take the late afternoon “Discover the Wheatbelt” coach tour departing from the Caravan Park. (See advert). You will find out what makes the town tick, see inside the largest horizontal grain storage bin in the Southern Hemisphere and get the general layout of the town for closer exploration in the days to come.

Day 2. Heritage on Foot!

In the morning take a leisurely walk around the Merredin Peak Heritage trail. A visit to the Railway Museum is a must before you treat yourself to lunch in a local café and explore the heritage sites in the Central part of town. Find the horse trough and Hitching rail, the memorial telegraph pole and see the unique interior of the heritage listed Cummins Theatre

Day 3. Rocks naturally!

Take a picnic lunch and head out to explore rocks and wildflowers. A moderate level of fitness is recommended to conquer the peaks of all three rocks or just enjoy the birds and flowers adjacent Totadgin Rock.

Day 4. Military Heritage

You may like to spend time catching up with the chores or shopping or having that much needed hair cut (be sure to book on Day 1) then visit the Military Museum before setting off on the Military Wanderer Drive passing former military sites in the town. Spoil yourself tonight with a meal at a local restaurant.

Day 5. North, South, East or West?

The choice is yours. You may like to check out one of the other drives suggested in this brochure. Explore the Rabbit Proof Fence, Go wildflower hunting or take a wildflower tour (in season). Spend the day exploring the country side or visiting nearby towns. Tonight would be a perfect night for Chinese takeaway after a full day exploring.

Day 6. Staying Longer?

Now that you have a feeling for the area and are almost a local you may wish to stay longer and enjoy another route. You’ll be most welcome. However, if you have to move on have a safe and enjoyable journey.
